Wild Diamond Vineyard

Wild Diamond vineyards is located in an ideal vineyard site. There are several things that make the site especially well suited for vineyards.

First, the vineyard is located at a elevation above 2000 feet. This is considered a high elevation for most grape growing. We feel there many advantages from this. The sun's added intensity causes the berry to form thicker skins. Since most of the phenols that provide flavors to the wine are located in the skins, the thicker skins can provide greater wine intensity. Also, the higher elevation is cooler than the valley floors during the hot summers, yet still allows for cool nights. Plus, it makes our site tend to be frost free.

Second, the soils are red volcanic soils. Grapes have a tendency to produce some of the best wines in well-drained, potassium rich soils. This type of soil naturally stresses the vines to produce complex characteristic. Our soil types are similar to the soils found in Howell Mountain in Napa. This is not surprising since our mountain is the next mountain due north of Howell mountain.

Third, our vineyard is located along the air flow path between Clear Lake and Lake Berryessa. This helps our vineyard have strong temperature differentials. In the morning, winds blow off of Clear Lake through the inland valleys toward Lake Berryessa. This means our grapes are greeted in the morning to a cooling breeze. In the afternoon, they receive the hot summer temperatures of Lake county. In the late afternoon, our elevation allows them to receive the cooling coastal breeze coming in from the Sonoma coast. These combinations create a unique terroir.

Most of our grapes are sold to a Napa winery under contract. However, we currently have the following varietals available.
